US Bank: Sensitive Customer Data, Compromised During Global Cybersecurity Breach

M&T Bank, headquartered in New York, has disclosed that a worldwide cybersecurity breach has resulted in the exposure of sensitive customer information. The bank informed its customers via a letter that the attack was carried out through the file transfer tool MOVEit, which is typically used to securely exchange confidential data. US banks reveals mind-blowing hacking reports

M&T Bank reported that the perpetrator obtained access to customer data by targeting a third-party vendor associated with the bank.

“Our investigation did, however, determine that certain information at our external service providers was compromised, including some of your information.

That information included your name, address and M&T checking, savings and/or money market account number(s).

While this data was exposed, rest assured no PINs, passwords, or other sensitive data, such as social security numbers, date of birth, or debit/credit card numbers, was accessed.”

M&T Bank has stated that its internal systems were not compromised and were not at risk during the recent data breach.

However, a customer affected by the breach has filed a class action lawsuit against the bank, claiming that they failed to properly secure and safeguard customer data stored on their network.

The lawsuit alleges that at least 95,000 customers were affected by the security incident, with potentially hundreds of thousands more impacted based on M&T Bank’s client base.
